Chargeback Reason-Code Glossary
Use this quick-reference list to decode the most common dispute reason codes you’ll see in ChargeResolve reports and alert feeds.
Visa
Code | Short Name | What it Means |
10.4 | Fraud—Card-Absent | Cardholder claims they didn’t authorise an online/phone order. |
13.1 | Merchandise / Services Not Received | Item never arrived or service not provided. |
13.2 | Canceled Recurring Transaction | Customer says a subscription should have been stopped. |
13.3 | Not as Described / Defective | Product differs from listing or arrived damaged. |
12.6 | Duplicate Processing | Same card charged twice for one order. |
Mastercard
Code | Short Name | What it Means |
4837 | No Cardholder Authorisation | Fraudulent transaction—cardholder denies involvement. |
4853-60 | Goods/Services Not Provided | Customer paid but didn’t receive item/service. |
4853-70 | Credit Not Processed | Promised refund never posted. |
4863 | Cardholder Doesn’t Recognise | “Unrecognised charge” likely descriptor confusion. |

F24 | No Card Present Fraud | Online/phone order claimed as unauthorised. |
C08 | Goods/Services Not Received | Item never arrived. |
C31 | Goods/Services Not as Described | Product quality or description issue. |
P05 | Credit Not Processed | Refund missing. |
